Shian Law
Shian will be working towards Personal Mythology, a series of abstracted choreographic performances that simulate the form of rituals such as processions, ceremonies, and rites without prescribing a symbolic function and meaning. Shian will be rehearsing in our Studio over April & May in preparation for a presentation in the 2012 Next Wave Festival. During this time he will be mentored by Jo Lloyd, under the JUMP mentorship program. Shian was recently named 'Dancer to Watch' by Chris Boyd in Dance Australia.Janine Proost
Janine presented the very first draft of this project at First Run late 2011. In May she will continue to develop the work, this time inviting other dance artists to join the process, experimenting with transitioning from solo-research to group research. Janine is interested in investigating a series of questions about what kind of performance structure resonates most with the times we live in.Luke George
The creation of a new solo work Not About Face is Luke's focus for his Residency in May/June. He will be exploring presence, energy, time and consciousness through the intersections and diversions between: performance; body; science; and the supernatural.www.lukegeorge.net
Lina Limosani
In late 2012 Lina will be working on the next phase of her solo dance theatre work Borderline. Borderline was originally derived from an Art Residency at Ballet Teatro; Porto, Portugal in June 2011. Lina plans to investigate the movement research inspired by the work of Scottish physical theatre director Al Seed.We look forward to having these artists in our space and seeing their work develop further.
The 2012 Studio Residencies was a very competitive round. We received 24 really interesting applications, indicating an incredible standard of work in Melbourne and a crucial demand for space.
2013 Studio Residency applications will open in the second half of 2012. Keep up to date on the latest information by visiting the Studio Residency page of our website:
